Charles Russell Shaddox, 1937–2005

My father, Charles Russell Shaddox, died of a heart attack on June 3, 2005. He was 68 years old.

His death was sudden and unexpected, and those who love him are only beginning to deal with the loss of one of the gentlest and most generous men I ever had the honor to know.

An obituary and online guestbook can be found at the Porter Loring Mortuaries web site. If you would like to share any stories or other information that you think Dad’s family should know, please feel free to use the guestbook or contact me.

Funeral arrangements

The funeral and burial were held June 10 in San Antonio. Many of Dad’s friends, family and associates attended, and his longtime friend and colleague, John Compere, gave a beautiful eulogy. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park.

Those who would like to make a contribution in his honor can do so to the Davidson-Shaddox Creative Writing Endowment at UTSA. Please contact me for more details.

I am indebted to all the family members and friends who have given freely of themselves to support us during this time. This outpouring is, for me, a reflection of the esteem in which so many people held my father — and that in turn reflects the love and respect that I will always feel for him. Thank you.
