Mold Monkies on sale everywhere! Good God!

6.28.05  The Mold Monkies’ debut album, O Brave Yet Ignorant Swine, is now available worldwide from a number of download services and online stores, as well as local record stores in southern Connecticut. See the list of locations in the right column.

Shown at right is the point-of-purchase promo poster, designed and written as usual by Quicksilver Communication. The CD cover and tray card feature an arresting pork-chop photo courtesy of the Emporia (KS) Gazette, with our gratitude. To see a shot of the Monkies section at Cutler’s, see the projects page.

James Velvet and Rick Allison at The Local Bands Show on 99.1 WPLR have been kind enough to play selections from the album each week for most of the last few months. For that we thank them, because even though we’re pathetic attention hounds who get a charge out of hearing ourselves on the radio, we still try to be courteous pathetic attention hounds.

Our next step is to finish the Mold Monkies web site and scrape together a touring band so we can take our music to the masses. Then Nick and I will be back at work on Buzzbaby’s second CD, scheduled to come out sometime before the next major geologic event. Keep an eye here for more information.

Charles Russell Shaddox, 1937–2005

6.05.05  My father passed away June 3 at the age of 68. I have started a page to serve as a tribute to the man who was a wonderful positive influence on my life — and the lives of all those who knew him.

Family ups and downs

5.26.05  My son Charlie and I went to Six Flags New England this past weekend and rode every roller coaster they had. On “The Cyclone,” a wooden monstrosity that shakes like The Blair Witch Project and screeches like the D train rolling into Washington Square, the automatic coaster camera captured a great shot of us. Do we look like we’re having fun?

Thank you, Frank Critelli

5.04.05  Last night many local New Haven musical luminaries hung about at Cafe Nine to pay tribute to Frank Critelli, one of the driving forces behind the city’s local music scene. Among those attending were The Sawtelles (who organized the semi-secret event), James Velvet, Chris Buskey, and my good friend and partner in musical crime, Nick Appleby. Several folks played covers of Frank’s songs; others like myself took some of Frank’s poetry and turned it into song. Frank is an excellent singer and songwriter and a genuinely good human being. It was great to see him get some of the praise he richly deserves.
