Lessons from Alaska

7.18.04  I’ve returned from vacation in Alaska, where I had a great time earlier this month fishing, breathing clean air, and taking pictures of fish, eagles, bears, trees, and other things often found in Alaska. True to form, I learned things on this trip and have brought home some souvenir learning points. To wit:

  • If you’ve just applied industrial-strength bug repellent to the back of your hand, do not then use that hand to wipe your mouth. Use a salmon instead.
  • There is a new entry on the list of people in this world I respect most: anyone who has managed to get any major project done without the benefit of indoor plumbing.
  • Believe it or not, humanity can get by without the Internet. I’m pretty sure the reverse is not true.

Now back in Connecticut, I continue my work as a casual at the Yale Library and resume my search for fulfilling employment. I’m most excited about several free-lance projects in the works, though. In addition to all these mundane, yet somehow income-producing projects, Nick and I are back to work on the CD (see “Musical News” below). We should have more songs to post soon.
